SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 187
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Della Freeman on the grand occasion of her 103rd
  birthday; and
 
         WHEREAS, Della "Mother Freeman" was born on January 30,
  1914, before the onset of World War I and in a time when Pancho
  Villa was still leading the Mexican Revolution; and
 
         WHEREAS, She moved from Dayton, Texas, to Port Arthur
  during her teenage years, and she graduated from Abraham Lincoln
  High School in 1934, when the school served only African American
  students; she is the last living graduate of her class; and
 
         WHEREAS, After high school, Mother Freeman moved to
  California and found work at the Los Angeles Probation
  Department; she met her true love in Los Angeles, and she was
  married for 42 years until her husband's death in 1999; and
 
         WHEREAS, Mother Freeman is a beloved member of her
  community; she has lived through times and experienced events
  that many people know only from history books, and there is much
  to be learned from her wisdom; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby recognize Della Freeman as a treasured
  citizen of Texas and congratulate her on her 103rd birthday;
  and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  her honor.
