SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 226

WHEREAS, An inspiring couple whose lives have been enhanced by a great and enduring love, the Reverend Darnell Thomas Sr. and Helen Thomas celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on September 17, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Reverend and Mrs. Thomas were united in matrimony in Liberty in 1951; over the years, their family grew to include their two sons, as well as their two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Respected members of their community, Reverend Thomas pastored for half a century and worked as a barber before his retirement, and Mrs. Thomas is a retired federal government civil servant and a certified teacher; they are valued congregants of the North Avenue United Methodist Church in Pittsburg; and

WHEREAS, While much has changed in the world over the past six and a half decades, this devoted husband and wife have remained constant in their commitment to each other, and the strength of their love has enabled them to meet life's challenges and opportunities with grace and optimism; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby congratulate the Reverend Darnell Thomas Sr. and Helen Thomas on their 65th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the couple as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
