SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 242
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Bishop George Sampleton, who is being honored by the
  congregants of Inspiration Pentecostal Church in Bastrop during
  Black History Month; and
 
         WHEREAS, George Sampleton is a pioneering community leader
  who persevered during the tumultuous years of the civil rights
  movement; and
 
         WHEREAS, In the midst of trauma, continual setbacks, and
  civil unrest, Bishop Sampleton stayed committed to the highest
  principles of social activism and helped pave the path for
  equality with determined, peaceful resistance; and
 
         WHEREAS, A man of great courage, compassion, and wisdom, he
  has mentored countless individuals over the years, and he is
  beloved by congregants for his spiritual guidance and valued
  counsel; and
 
         WHEREAS, Bishop Sampleton has led an exemplary life, and he
  has inspired others to become engaged in their communities and to
  work diligently for a fair and just society; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby commend Bishop George Sampleton for his
  contributions to the community as a champion for civil rights and
  as a spiritual leader and extend to him best wishes in all his
  future endeavors; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
