SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 251
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Members of the Texas Association of School |
|
|
Business Officials are gathering in Austin on February 28, 2017, |
|
|
to celebrate TASBO Day at the State Capitol; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Founded in 1946, the Texas Association of School |
|
|
Business Officials has been invaluable as a resource for school |
|
|
finance and operations for more than 70 years; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, There are more than 6,500 members, 33 percent of |
|
|
whom have earned TASBO certification; they are serving in public |
|
|
school districts, regional service centers, and charter schools |
|
|
and are committed to providing safe, effective, and efficient |
|
|
schools for children in Texas; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Led by executive director Dr. Tracy Ginsburg and |
|
|
board president Karen Smith, assistant superintendent of |
|
|
business and finance at Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School |
|
|
District, the association advocates on behalf of Texas public |
|
|
schools and provides professional development on best practices |
|
|
throughout the year to nearly 14,000 training participants at |
|
|
over 400 events; it informs the media about the escalating needs |
|
|
of schools throughout the Lone Star State and about the group's |
|
|
principal concerns, which include funding schools optimally, |
|
|
financing school facilities, supporting meaningful |
|
|
transparency, attracting and retaining talent in schools, and |
|
|
reducing unfunded mandates; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The members of this organization have risen to the |
|
|
challenge of seeking effective solutions within the daunting |
|
|
arena of school finance on behalf of over five million children |
|
|
in public schools; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of State of Texas, 85th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby recognize February 28, 2017, as TASBO Day at |
|
|
the State Capitol and extend to all those in attendance sincere |
|
|
best wishes for a memorable and meaningful visit to Austin. |
