SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 270
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Libby Averyt, who is retiring as president of the
  Corpus Christi Caller-Times after more than 30 years of
  outstanding service; and
 
         WHEREAS, Libby Averyt started her career at the Corpus
  Christi Caller-Times in 1986 as a night reporter on the police
  beat; she has gone on to hold a variety of positions in different
  departments of the media organization, including executive
  editor and vice president of advertising; and
 
         WHEREAS, She is the first woman to serve as the newspaper's
  chief executive, and throughout her career, she has held fast to
  her belief that journalism has an important role to play in the
  fabric of life in the community; and
 
         WHEREAS, She is a talented and resourceful professional
  and has handled her leadership responsibilities with dedication
  and an eye to keeping the community well informed about important
  issues; and
 
         WHEREAS, An exemplary journalist, she is respected and
  admired by her colleagues and by the general public, and her
  presence at the Corpus Christi Caller-Times will be greatly
  missed; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby commend Libby Averyt on her outstanding
  service to the people of Corpus Christi as president of the
  Corpus Christi Caller-Times and extend to her best wishes for
  continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
