SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 286
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Dimitri Peter Pappas
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of Houston in mourning the loss of Dimitri Peter Pappas,
  who died January 24, 2017, at the age of 81; and
         WHEREAS, Dimitri Pappas was born on August 19, 1935, in
  Laredo, Texas, to Emma Alicia Martinez and Peter Santiago Pappas,
  who was the son of Santiago Pappas, one of the first Greek
  immigrants in Laredo; and
         WHEREAS, Dimitri Pappas earned a bachelor's degree in
  accounting from Texas A&M University, where he was a member of
  the Corps of Cadets, and he went on to serve the nation as a
  navigator and pilot in the United States Air Force; his military
  career included a tour of duty in Vietnam, and he was honored with
  the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, the Bronze Star
  Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross; he earned a
  master's degree in logistics management during his service, and
  he retired from the Air Force with the rank of lieutenant
  colonel; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Pappas was respected and admired throughout
  the community for his commitment to faith, family, tradition, and
  education; he served as a lector at Saint Michael's Catholic
  Church, and he and his wife, Judy, both served the church as
  eucharistic ministers; and
         WHEREAS, A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and a
  man of great distinction, Dimitri Pappas was beloved by many; he
  leaves behind memories that will long be cherished by all who
  were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Dimitri Peter Pappas: his devoted wife, Judith Mudd
  Pappas; his children, Sandra Ann Flanagan and Michael Peter
  Pappas; his sister, Sandra Pappas Carabaza; and his two
  granddaughters; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Dimitri Peter Pappas.
