SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 291
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize the Georgetown Independent School District on the
  occasion of its 100th anniversary; and
 
         WHEREAS, The Georgetown Independent School District was
  established in 1917 with the passage of Senate Bill 225; the bill
  was enacted to help ease the overcrowding of the city's public
  schools and to help implement the state's new compulsory
  attendance requirement; and
 
         WHEREAS, Public schools in Georgetown had been producing
  notable educators for some time before the district's creation;
  Annie Lee Purl was a member of the first Georgetown High School
  graduating class in 1892, and she enjoyed a distinguished 50-year
  career with the district as both a teacher and an administrator,
  and an elementary school in the district has been named in her
  honor; and
 
         WHEREAS, The district has been on the cutting edge of
  educational trends for many years, beginning with the use of
  standardized educational testing in the 1920s; and
 
         WHEREAS, For 100 years, the Georgetown Independent School
  District has been dedicated to providing quality educational
  opportunities and to helping young people prepare to face the
  challenges of an ever-changing society, and it is truly fitting
  that the district receive special recognition as it reaches this
  milestone in its history; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby commend the trustees, administrators,
  faculty, and staff of the Georgetown Independent School District
  on their commitment to excellence in education and extend to all
  best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the district as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
