SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 311
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  join the citizens of Washington County in celebrating the
  dedication of an Official Texas Historical Marker at the site of
  the original Pleasant Hill School; and
         WHEREAS, On December 3, 1877, the Hahnke family sold
  one-half acre of land to Pleasant Hill School for the purpose
  of erecting a schoolhouse; in 1883, two acres of land were sold
  by the Wilhelms to the school community, and that land is now
  located on the T. H. Koester Estate; according to photographic
  evidence, the original school was a simple one-room wooden
  structure with a woodstove, a wood-shingle roof, and a small
  attached porch; and
         WHEREAS, In 1920, the community received $500 from the
  Rural Aid Fund for the construction of a new school; the new
  school was a more elaborate structure with wood siding and a bell
  tower at the center; a large hall ran the length of the building
  and between two rooms with hinged walls; and
         WHEREAS, During World War II, the school's students were
  active in supporting the nation's military by taking part in
  scrap metal drives and by knitting squares for an afghan with a V
  for Victory in the design; and
         WHEREAS, The last recorded Pleasant Hill School meeting
  took place in 1961, and the school was consolidated upon the
  completion of the new Brenham High School in 1963; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the history and legacy of the
  Pleasant Hill School and extend to all best wishes for a
  memorable Official Texas Historical Marker dedication ceremony;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  honor of this special occasion.
