SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 327
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize the month of March as Multiple System Atrophy Awareness
  Month in Texas; and
 
         WHEREAS, Multiple system atrophy is a progressive and
  fatal neurological disease that is known to affect approximately
  15,000 patients in the United States; as many as 35,000 more
  citizens suffer the condition without accurate diagnoses; and
 
         WHEREAS, In the course of a few years, patients with
  multiple system atrophy lose the ability to walk, talk, chew,
  swallow, and eventually, the ability to breathe; there are no
  specific risk factors or known causes for the disease, and there
  is currently no known cure; and
 
         WHEREAS, A lack of awareness about multiple system atrophy
  has hindered research and the ability of researchers to attain
  funding for their work; public support and greater awareness can
  aid in the discovery of the causes and a possible cure for this
  devastating neurological disease and could help make a difference
  in the lives of thousands of Americans; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby recognize the month of March as Multiple
  System Atrophy Awareness Month in Texas and encourage citizens
  across the state to help raise awareness of this neurodegenerative
  disorder; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as a
  memento of this important month.
