SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 355
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great pride |
|
|
in recognizing Senator Eddie Lucio Jr., who has been selected as |
|
|
the 2017 Border Texan of the Year; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Since 1989, the Border Texan of the Year Committee |
|
|
has annually honored individuals for their contributions, |
|
|
support, and advocacy on behalf of residents of the Rio Grande |
|
|
Valley and for their commitment to the betterment of South Texas |
|
|
communities; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For 40 years, Senator Lucio has been a voice for |
|
|
the people of the Rio Grande Valley; he is being honored for his |
|
|
tireless advocacy on behalf of veterans and of children with |
|
|
disabilities and for spearheading legislation that has strengthened |
|
|
the local economy, promoted equity in public schools, and greatly |
|
|
expanded higher education opportunities in the region; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Senator Lucio is among the longest-serving |
|
|
members of the Texas Senate; he chairs the Senate Committee on |
|
|
Intergovernmental Relations and serves as vice-chair of the |
|
|
Senate Committee on Education; he has been honored by the |
|
|
Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas for his work |
|
|
aiding the families of fallen police officers; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Eddie Lucio is respected by his colleagues for his |
|
|
conscientious approach to legislative leadership and for working |
|
|
across the aisle to ensure the best possible outcomes for all |
|
|
Texans; he is indeed deserving of recognition for his success in |
|
|
representing the citizens of the Rio Grande Valley and Texans |
|
|
across the state; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend Senator Eddie Lucio Jr. for his many |
|
|
contributions to the Rio Grande Valley and the State of Texas and |
|
|
congratulate him on being named the 2017 Border Texan of the |
|
|
Year; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
