SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 380

Rosa Lea Meek Dickerson |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
commemorates the life of Rosa Lea Meek Dickerson, who died |
|
October 23, 2016, at the age of 94; and |
|
WHEREAS, Rosa Lea was born on March 20, 1922, in Hereford, |
|
to Walter and Buna Fullwood; her father was a pioneering aviator |
|
and taught his children to fly at young ages; Rosa Lea made her |
|
first solo flight at the age of 12 or 13; she received her private |
|
pilot's license in 1940 and her commercial pilot's license in |
|
1942; and |
|
WHEREAS, A graduate of McAllen High School and McAllen |
|
Business College, she served the nation with distinction as a |
|
member of the Women Airforce Service Pilots during World War II; |
|
she flew several types of military aircraft, including the famous |
|
P-51 fighter plane; and |
|
WHEREAS, She married the late Carl D. Meek Sr. in 1945; |
|
they helped establish the Kerrville Flying Service and later |
|
owned Meek Motors and Meek Real Estate; she went on to be a Mooney |
|
Aircraft dealer and the owner of Rosa Lea Realty; and |
|
WHEREAS, After the death of her first husband, she married |
|
the late Arthur P. Dickerson in 1988; her large and loving |
|
extended family was a source of much pride and joy for her; and |
|
WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and compassion, she |
|
gave unselfishly to others, and her wisdom, her generous spirit, |
|
and her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be |
|
forgotten by those who were privileged to share in her life; and |
|
WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, |
|
and she leaves behind memories that will be cherished forever by |
|
her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
family of Rosa Lea Meek Dickerson; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Rosa Lea Meek Dickerson. |
