  In Memory
  of
  Bobbie Bolds Lander
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of the late Bobbie Bolds Lander; and
         WHEREAS, Bobbie Lander was born on April 16, 1925, in
  Menlo, Georgia, to William and Rosa Lee Bolds; the youngest of 13
  children, she grew up working on her family's farm and at the age
  of 18, she moved to Washington, D.C., and worked for the United
  States Department of the Navy, which was the beginning of her
  long and distinguished career with the government; and
         WHEREAS, While in Washington, D.C., she met and married the
  late Fred L. Lander III, a student of the Howard University
  School of Law; she gladly took the responsibility of raising his
  two young sons and took great pride in their successes; and
         WHEREAS, The family moved to Dallas in 1972, and
  Mrs. Lander continued her career in government service by
  becoming the first African American woman to work as a tax
  auditor for the Internal Revenue Service; she later served as a
  secretary at Lander and Associates, her husband's law firm; and
         WHEREAS, At the age of 72, she fulfilled a promise she had
  made to her father by earning a bachelor's degree from Dallas
  Baptist University; a devout Christian who practiced her faith in
  her daily life, she was a longtime member of New Home Baptist
  Church, and she was active in a wide range of community
  organizations, including the National Council of Negro Women,
  Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, and the Dallas Association of Bench
  and Bar Spouses; and
         WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and compassion, she
  gave unselfishly to others, and her wisdom, warmth, and valued
  counsel will not be forgotten by those who were privileged to
  share in her life; and
         WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife and mother, and she leaves
  behind memories that will be treasured forever by her family and
  many friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Bobbie Bolds Lander; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Bobbie Bolds Lander.
