SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 395
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Joseph E. Torres
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Dr. Joseph E. Torres, who died
  February 5, 2017, at the age of 93; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Joseph Torres was an exemplary citizen who
  was widely respected and admired in the El Paso community for his
  many achievements; and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of El Paso High School, Dr. Torres
  served the nation with distinction in the United States Army Air
  Corps in World War II; he began his military service in the
  infantry, but later became a bombardier and navigator for B-17
  aircraft, and he flew 13 missions over Germany during the
  war; and
         WHEREAS, He went on to serve in the Army Air Corps Reserve
  and in the Air Force Reserve, and he retired with the rank of
  colonel; he practiced dentistry in El Paso for more than 60
  years; and
         WHEREAS, He was the founder of the local chapter of the
  American G.I. Forum and served as its vice commander; he was also
  a founding member of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, a nonprofit
  organization, and he was instrumental in the founding of the
  Legacy of Valor nonprofit organization; he was honored by the
  82nd Airborne Division Association for his exemplary service in
  support of international freedom and world peace; and
         WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he
  gave generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued
  counsel will not be forgotten by those who were privileged to
  share in his life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family and friends of Dr. Joseph E. Torres; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Dr. Joseph E. Torres.
