SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 404
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Margaret Merle Roberts
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of Houston in mourning the loss of Margaret Merle
  Roberts, who died January 4, 2017, at the age of 46; and
         WHEREAS, Margaret Roberts was born on March 21, 1970, and
  she grew up in the Riverwood Estates community in Houston; she
  graduated from M. B. Smiley High School in 1988, and she
  furthered her studies at Texas Southern University and later at
  the University of Houston in Clear Lake; and
         WHEREAS, Margaret joined the Houston Fire Department in
  April of 1994, and over the years, she was assigned to fire
  stations throughout the Houston area; in 2002, she attended
  Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting training, and she was
  transferred to help open a new fire station at George Bush
  Intercontinental Airport the following year; she retired from
  the department on December 13, 2016, after 22 years of
  distinguished service; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to her career as a firefighter,
  Margaret succeeded in several entrepreneurial endeavors with her
  husband, Daniel Jerome Roberts II; she was a loving mother and
  grandmother who guided her family by spiritual example, and she
  was an active member of Saint Luke Missionary Baptist Church; and
         WHEREAS, Margaret Merle Roberts was a devoted public
  servant,andsheinspiredthosearoundherwithherkindness,her
  wisdom, and her steadfast bravery in working to protect her
  fellow citizens; she is being posthumously honored on
  Firefighters and Paramedics Day at the State Capitol on March 21,
  2017; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family and friends of Margaret Merle Roberts; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Margaret Merle Roberts.
