SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 421
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Altrusa International, Incorporated, on the 100th
  anniversary of its founding; and
 
         WHEREAS, Altrusa International was founded in 1917 in
  Nashville, Tennessee, to fill the need for civic organizations
  for women; the mission of this global volunteer service
  organization is to promote better communities through
  leadership, partnership, and service; and
 
         WHEREAS, Altrusa members share human and financial
  resources in their communities, support nongovernmental
  organizations through foundation grants, and provide
  humanitarian relief through multiple avenues; in 2016 alone,
  members around the world engaged in more than a million hours of
  volunteer service; and
 
         WHEREAS, This outstanding organization works tirelessly to
  support and promote women, but membership is open to all; rather
  than seeking to place blame for the lack of recognition and
  opportunities for women in business, the organization aims to
  awaken women to their responsibilities and possibilities and to
  highlight their accomplishments; and
 
         WHEREAS, The many service areas Altrusa has focused on
  through the years include literacy, HIV/AIDS, and disaster
  relief; it is truly fitting that Altrusa receive special
  recognition as it reaches this milestone in its history; now,
  therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby commend Altrusa International,
  Incorporated, on its commitment to humanitarian service and
  extend to its members best wishes for memorable 100th anniversary
  celebrations; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this
  exemplaryorganizationasanexpressionofesteemfromtheTexasSenate.
