SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 464
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Charles Ray Sims, a retired fire chief of the Cedar
  Hill Fire Department, who has been named a 2017 Lifetime
  Achievement Honoree; and
 
         WHEREAS, Charles Sims joined the Cedar Hill Volunteer Fire
  Department in 1949, and he quickly gained the respect of his
  colleagues and the community; during his long career with the
  department, he served as the volunteer fire chief for 26 years; and
 
         WHEREAS, In 1984, Chief Sims became the first paid fire
  chief of the Cedar Hill Fire Department; as a leader, he was noted
  for his skill and courage and for promoting the highest ideals of
  civic service and public safety; and
 
         WHEREAS, Chief Sims retired in February of 1995, after 46
  years with the department; in 2000, he was recognized for his
  exemplary contributions to the community when the Cedar Hill Fire
  Department named the central fire station the Charles R. Sims
  Station in his honor; and
 
         WHEREAS, A truly distinguished public servant, Chief Sims
  established standards of excellence at the Cedar Hill Fire
  Department for his successors to follow, and his legacy at the
  department will not be forgotten; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby commend former Cedar Hill Fire Department
  Fire Chief Charles Ray Sims for helping to shape the success of
  the Cedar Hill Fire Department and congratulate him on being
  named a 2017 Lifetime Achievement Honoree; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
