Ivan Wayne Schmedemann |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
|
commemorates the life of Ivan Wayne "Doc" Schmedemann, who died |
|
|
March 18, 2017, at the age of 87; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ivan Schmedemann was born on March 16, 1930, in |
|
|
Geary County, Kansas; he attended Geary County elementary schools, |
|
|
and he graduated from Junction City High School in 1948; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ivan earned a bachelor's degree in agricultural |
|
|
economics from Kansas State College in 1952, and he then served |
|
|
with distinction for two years as a lieutenant in the United |
|
|
States Army; after his service, he returned to his alma mater, |
|
|
where he earned a master's degree in 1957; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Doc Schmedemann earned his doctoral degree in |
|
|
agricultural economics from Texas A&M University in 1966; he |
|
|
became a professor at the university and developed the master of |
|
|
land economics and real estate program, and over the course of |
|
|
his exemplary career, he received numerous accolades for his many |
|
|
contributions to the school and to the real estate profession; he |
|
|
was highly respected by his students and colleagues, and in 2004, |
|
|
he received a Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award from the |
|
|
American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Above all things, Doc cherished his family; he |
|
|
shared 60 years of marriage with Luanne Schmedemann, and he was |
|
|
blessed with one son and two grandchildren who were a source of |
|
|
great pride and joy; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Doc Schmedemann was a distinguished member of the |
|
|
community who enriched the lives of others with his wisdom, his |
|
|
warmth, and his valued counsel; he leaves behind memories that |
|
|
will long be cherished by all who were privileged to share in his |
|
|
life; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
|
family of Ivan Wayne Schmedemann; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
|
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
|
memory of Ivan Schmedemann. |
