SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 536
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Terry Mills, who has been named the recipient of the
  2016 FBI Director's Community Leadership Award by the Houston
  field office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation; and
         WHEREAS, This prestigious honor was established in 1990 as
  a way to honor individuals and organizations for their efforts in
  combating crime, terrorism, drugs, and violence in the United
  States; every year, Federal Bureau of Investigation field
  offices throughout the country select a community partner to
  receive the award; and
         WHEREAS, Terry Mills is president of the Corpus Christi
  chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of
  Colored People; since assuming the post in 2009, he has been at
  the forefront of endeavors to promote the region's civil rights
  efforts, education initiatives, and youth outreach programs; and
         WHEREAS, In 2016, he brought together law enforcement
  agencies, community organizations, local businesses, and schools
  for a youth summit; the conference attracted more than 4,000 high
  school students, and representatives from participating agencies
  discussed such topics as domestic violence, self-esteem issues,
  religious and cultural differences, the importance of making
  good life decisions, and how to have positive interactions with
  law enforcement; and
         WHEREAS, Terry Mills has had a profound impact on the
  Corpus Christi community through his advocacy for justice and
  equality, and it is truly fitting that he receive special
  recognition; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby commend Terry Mills on his many achievements
  and extend congratulations to him on receiving the 2016 FBI
  Director's Community Leadership Award; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
