SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 543

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Brazos County World War I Centennial Committee for its work honoring local veterans and to join citizens around the state in celebrating April 6, 2017, as World War I Remembrance Day; and

WHEREAS, This year marks the 100th anniversary of the United States' entry into the First World War; the veterans of that conflict were men and women of honor who faced evil and aggression with great courage and steadfast determination; and

WHEREAS, Brazos County has a rich history associated with World War I; during the war, Texas A&M University hosted the only Allied training center for meteorology, and it served as a training location for 4,000 United States Army Signal Corps members and mechanics; and

WHEREAS, The Brazos County World War I Centennial Committee was formed in January of 2017 to honor the sacrifice and service of local citizens; the committee has partnered with both the United States and Texas World War I Centennial Commissions to promote awareness about World War I and to plan commemorative events in the county; and

WHEREAS, It is indeed fitting that all Texans reaffirm their gratitude to those true patriots of the First World War who fought so bravely in defense of our nation's safety, security, and ideals; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby commend the Brazos County World War I Centennial Committee for their work on behalf of local veterans and join all Texans in paying tribute to our servicemen and servicewomen on World War I Remembrance Day; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of this very important day.
