SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 545
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The observance of National Child Abuse Prevention |
|
|
Month in April 2017 serves as a reminder of our shared |
|
|
responsibility for protecting and nurturing those most |
|
|
vulnerable among us; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, National Child Abuse Prevention Month was |
|
|
established in April 1983, and in the years since, government |
|
|
agencies and advocacy groups have dedicated this month to |
|
|
promoting initiatives that help target and stop abuse; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, According to the Children's Advocacy Centers of |
|
|
Texas, 185 young Texans suffer from maltreatment each day; taking |
|
|
many forms, including neglect and physical, sexual, or emotional |
|
|
abuse, these tragic occurrences too often cut short the lives of |
|
|
their victims or produce scars, both visible and unseen, that can |
|
|
last a lifetime; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, To help combat this injustice in our communities, |
|
|
organizations at the local, state, and national levels have |
|
|
sponsored programs that provide educational resources, assist |
|
|
families, and foster healthy parenting practices; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Public awareness is one of the most important |
|
|
tools in the fight to end child abuse and neglect; in observing |
|
|
National Child Abuse Prevention Month, citizens of the Lone Star |
|
|
State are taking a vital step toward ensuring that future |
|
|
generations of Texans receive every opportunity to realize their |
|
|
fullest potential; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby recognize April 2017 as Child Abuse |
|
|
Prevention Month and call on all citizens to work together to |
|
|
protect the welfare of children throughout the state and beyond. |
