SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 590
         WHEREAS, The Paint the Town Project in Eagle Pass is
  celebrating its 11th anniversary on April 29, 2017; and
         WHEREAS, Established in 2006, this community coalition
  takes a strong stand against vandalism and gang-related
  graffiti; its inaugural effort was organized by city officials
  and the United States Border Patrol War on Drugs program, and it
  brought together city and county employees, civic organizations,
  law enforcement, and students for a cleanup around the historic
  San Juan Plaza area downtown; and
         WHEREAS, The coalition has since organized a further 150
  events to paint over gang-related graffiti and beautify the city;
  in addition, it encourages individuals and organizations to
  maintain the tidiness of their neighborhoods, and it works to
  raise awareness of the dangers of street gangs and illicit
  activities such as drug use; its current membership includes
  volunteers from law enforcement, the Eagle Pass Independent
  School District, and local college students; and
         WHEREAS, Through their dedicated efforts, volunteers with
  the Paint the Town Project are helping to strengthen the
  community and improve quality of life in Maverick County; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby congratulate the Paint the Town Project on
  its 11th anniversary and extend to all those associated with this
  outstanding program sincere best wishes for continued success;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the Paint the Town Project as an expression of high regard from
  the Texas Senate.
