SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 593
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Joe S. Bono
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of Mercedes in mourning the loss of Joe S. Bono, who died
  March 18, 2017, at the age of 97; and
         WHEREAS, A Mercedes native, Joe Bono was born on December 18,
  1919; he was a highly respected resident who touched the lives of
  others, and he was known for his warmth, his kindness, and his
  tireless dedication to serving the community he loved; and
         WHEREAS, Joe Bono graduated from Mercedes High School in
  1937, and he went on to serve his country with distinction during
  World War II; he returned home from the war and became an active
  member of the local American Legion post, where he lead efforts
  to help connect fellow veterans with needed benefits; he also
  became a popular speaker at Veterans Day and Memorial Day
  ceremonies, and he particularly looked forward to speaking to the
  children at Taylor Elementary School; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Bono was a distinguished community leader who
  served as both a member and president of the Mercedes Independent
  School District Board of Trustees; he also played a key role as a
  member of the Mercedes Historic Preservation Commission in
  designating a historic district as a local landmark; and
         WHEREAS, Above all things, Joe cherished his family; he was
  the devoted husband of the late Catarina G. Bono, and they were
  blessed with three children, four grandchildren, and three
  great-grandchildren who were a source of great pride and joy; and
         WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman, Joe Bono was beloved by
  many, and he leaves behind memories that will long be cherished by
  all who were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Joe S. Bono; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Joe Bono.
