SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 610
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, which is |
|
|
celebrating 40 years of service at an anniversary luncheon on |
|
|
April 26, 2017; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce was |
|
|
established on March 2, 1977, by a small group of business |
|
|
leaders who sought to elevate Hispanic-owned businesses and |
|
|
advocate for the interests of the Hispanic business community; |
|
|
today, the chamber's growing membership is comprised of numerous |
|
|
entrepreneurs, executives, and firms from an array of |
|
|
industries; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For the last 40 years, the chamber has served as a |
|
|
catalyst for local economic growth by connecting members with a |
|
|
strong network of local, national, and international |
|
|
partnerships and introducing them to new opportunities for |
|
|
business and commerce; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In addition to serving Houston area businesses |
|
|
and entrepreneurs, the chamber advocates for the broader |
|
|
Hispanic community at the local, state, and national levels on |
|
|
such challenging issues as immigration reform, education, and |
|
|
health care; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Under the current leadership of Dr. Laura |
|
|
Murillo, and with the support of a skilled staff and an active |
|
|
board of directors, the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce |
|
|
continues to serve as a unified voice for its members and the |
|
|
Hispanic community in Houston; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend all associated with the Houston |
|
|
Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for their work empowering Hispanic |
|
|
business leaders and congratulate them on 40 years of success; |
|
|
and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
the chamber as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
