SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 642
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  join the Texas Lyme Disease Association and Texans across the
  state in observing May of 2017 as Lyme Disease Awareness Month in
  Texas; and
 
         WHEREAS, Lyme Disease infects more than 300,000 people in
  the United States each year; it is transmitted by the common
  black-legged tick, which is found in nearly half of all counties
  in the United States; and
 
         WHEREAS, Lyme Disease is a complex multisystem illness that,
  if left untreated, can invade the nervous system, the heart, and
  other organs and can cause years of pain and suffering, disability,
  and even death; its symptoms can manifest as a wide range of other
  illnesses, including arthritis, migraine headaches, multiple
  sclerosis, and various neurological disorders; and
 
         WHEREAS, It is important to educate the public about the
  signs, symptoms, treatment, and prevention of this disease, and
  Lyme Disease Awareness Month presents a fitting opportunity to
  raise awareness about the dangers of this potentially deadly
  disease; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby commend the Texas Lyme Disease Association
  for its advocacy efforts and proclaim the month of May 2017 as
  Lyme Disease Awareness Month in Texas; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the association as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
