SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 693
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize the members of the Texas Silver Student Study Group for
  their exceptional contributions to the state; and
         WHEREAS, Sponsored by the STAR DAY Foundation of El Paso,
  the Texas Silver Student Study Group was initially organized in
  2006 as an after-school education enrichment program at Lucy Rede
  Franco Middle School in Presidio; and
         WHEREAS, The aim of the program was to plan, conduct, and
  document field trip expeditions to the Shafter Silver Mine as a
  means of studying the elemental properties of silver, exploring
  its uses, and researching silver-mining methods and
  technologies; and
         WHEREAS, In 2007, the Texas Silver Student Study Group
  proposed that silver be designated as the Official Precious Metal
  of Texas, and as a result of their efforts, the Texas Legislature
  adopted House Concurrent Resolution 102 during the 80th
  Legislative Session; the group went on to propose
  community-sponsored resolutions in honor of the silver mine and
  its history and to play a role in supporting the Official State
  Bison Herd of Texas Fund and other initiatives; and
         WHEREAS, Through their work with the STAR DAY Foundation,
  the members of the Texas Silver Student Study Group have
  continued to enhance the story of the Lone Star State through
  local and state projects; they can indeed take pride in their
  outstanding efforts to commemorate Texas' unique history and
  culture; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby commend all associated with the Texas Silver
  Student Study Group for their exemplary legislative proposals
  and their valuable community service accomplishments; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  honor of this program and as an expression of esteem from the
  Texas Senate.
