SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 731
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Nelson Richard Barrett on the occasion of his 90th |
|
|
birthday; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Nelson Barrett was born on May 26, 1927, in |
|
|
Buffalo, New York; he became an Eagle Scout in 1942, and he |
|
|
graduated from high school in 1944 and participated in the |
|
|
Reserve Officers' Training Corps at Rutgers University; he |
|
|
enlisted in the United States Army, and he served in occupied |
|
|
Germany after the war before returning home and earning a degree |
|
|
from the University of Rochester; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He went on to earn a law degree from the |
|
|
University of Buffalo in 1955, and he still maintains a license |
|
|
to practice law in New York; he moved to Texas in 1984, and he |
|
|
passed this state's bar examination in 2009 at the age of 82; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Since 1967, Mr. Barrett has been a dedicated and |
|
|
active member of Rotary International; he has twice served as a |
|
|
Rotary chapter president and has hosted two Rotary exchange |
|
|
students; in 1969, he led a Rotary exchange group to Great |
|
|
Britain; he is an avid pilot, and over the years, he made numerous |
|
|
round trips between Texas and New York in his cherished Mooney |
|
|
aircraft; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Nelson Barrett is noted for his strong faith, his |
|
|
indomitable spirit, and his sense of humor; he is a beloved and |
|
|
respected member of his community, who has lived through times |
|
|
and experienced events that many only know through history books; |
|
|
his life has given him a unique perspective on current events, |
|
|
and there is much to be learned from the wisdom he has gained over |
|
|
the years; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend Nelson Richard Barrett on his many |
|
|
achievements and extend to him best wishes for a memorable 90th |
|
|
birthday celebration; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
