SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 778
         WHEREAS, When they married many years ago, Barbara and Jess
  Barrier placed great faith and trust in one another, and they
  have been amply rewarded, as they recently celebrated their 60th
  wedding anniversary; and
         WHEREAS, Barbara and Jess Barrier married on April 20,
  1957, at Houston South Main Baptist Church; the world has changed
  considerably during the years of their marriage, yet Mr. and
  Mrs. Barrier have continued to cherish traditional family
  values; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Barrier served the nation with distinction
  for 16 years as a member of the United States Marine Corps; his
  service included duty in the Korean War, during which he saw
  combat action in the historic Battle of the Chosin Reservoir;
  he graduated from Texas A&M University and built a career that
  included positions with a number of organizations, such as Houston
  Lighting and Power and the Texas Association of Hospitals; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Barrier graduated from Baylor University
  with a degree in journalism; she enjoyed a fulfilling 35-year
  career as a reporter and proofreader for the Williamson County
  Sun; as a reporter, she covered a wide range of subjects and
  earned the respect and trust of readers and sources alike; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Barrier have been blessed with a
  wonderful family; their children and grandchildren have been a
  source of much pride and joy for them; and
         WHEREAS, Over the years, they have grown stronger in their
  love and devotion as together they have experienced the joys and
  sorrows of everyday living; the long and happy union of Mr. and
  Mrs. Barrier is truly an inspiration to all; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to Barbara and Jess
  Barrier on their 60th wedding anniversary; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  this distinguished couple as an expression of esteem from the
  Texas Senate.
