SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 790
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Dr. Samuel P. Perry, an assistant professor for the
  Baylor Interdisciplinary Core, who has recently been awarded
  tenure; and
         WHEREAS, Samuel Perry graduated from Baylor University
  with a degree in communication and history, and he earned his
  master's degree from the university in communication; he later
  continued his studies at Georgia State University, where he
  earned his doctoral degree in public communication, with a focus
  on public address and visual rhetoric; and
         WHEREAS, In 2011, Dr. Perry returned to Texas to join the
  Baylor University faculty; he is the instructor of record for six
  courses, and he leads a team of faculty members as the coordinator
  for the World of Rhetoric I and II courses; he also serves as the
  coordinator for a graduate fellowship between the Baylor
  Interdisciplinary Core and the Communication department; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Perry's ongoing research focuses on the
  intersection of text and image, specifically as that intersection
  relates to issues of race and African American identity; his work
  has been published in peer-reviewed articles, selected papers,
  and textbooks, and he has spoken at numerous conferences and for
  professional associations on current events as they relate to his
  research; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Perry is a distinguished scholar who contributes
  his academic expertise in communication and rhetoric to
  textbooks and a number of academic journals; he sheds light on
  important issues that affect citizens and communities today and
  on the ways in which citizenship has been defined throughout
  American history; he is indeed deserving of recognition for his
  exceptional research and his many accomplishments; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Samuel P. Perry for his significant
  contributions to academia and extend to him congratulations on
  earning tenure at Baylor University; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
  as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
