SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 808

  In Memory
  of
  Douglas Sterling Cain

WHEREAS, The death of Douglas Sterling Cain of San Antonio
on May 6, 2017, at the age of 62, has brought a great loss to the
family and many friends of this admired entrepreneur; and
WHEREAS, Born in Houston on November 20, 1954, Doug Cain
was the son of Merlene and Joseph P. Cain; when he was 12 years
old, he began helping out at the company his father founded, Lake
Truck Lines, which made oil-field deliveries in Texas and
Louisiana; he graduated from Clear Creek High School and
completed his bachelor's degree in criminal justice and
corrections at the University of Houston--Clear Lake; and
WHEREAS, Lake Truck Lines wound down operations following
Joe Cain's retirement, but in the early 1980s, Doug Cain decided
to revive the company; he worked long hours and even took a second
job until his dogged sales efforts won him a big contract hauling
steel plates; after hanging on through the oil bust, the company
flourished under his leadership, and in 2011, he relocated its
headquarters to San Antonio, where it expanded from operating 12
trucks to almost 100; in addition, he created a subsidiary, Lake
Oilfield Services, to manufacture equipment; Lake Truck Lines
was named Fastest Growing Company in its size category in both
2013 and 2014 by the Central Texas Chapter of the Association for
Corporate Growth, and it was named Heavy Haul Trucking Company of
the Year at the 2013 Oil and Gas Awards-Southwest; and
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Cain enjoyed the love
and support of his wife, Lisa, and he took great pride in his
  daughter, Erin; and
WHEREAS, Although Doug Cain will be deeply missed,
memories of his integrity, courage, and tremendous determination
will forever remain to comfort and inspire those he leaves
  behind; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Douglas Sterling
  Cain and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing;
  and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do
so in memory of Doug Cain.
