SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 856
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Major General Lester Simpson, who has retired after |
|
|
more than 36 years of outstanding service with the United States |
|
|
Army National Guard; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Major General Simpson was commissioned in 1980 |
|
|
through the Reserve Officers' Training Corps program at The |
|
|
University of Texas at Arlington; he holds a master's degree in |
|
|
Strategic Studies and is a graduate of the CAPSTONE General and |
|
|
Flag Officer Course in Washington, D.C.; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Over the course of his distinguished military |
|
|
career, he held numerous leadership and command positions; he |
|
|
served as commander of the 3rd Battalion, 144th Infantry |
|
|
Regiment, and of the 142nd Rear Operations Center; in 2011, he |
|
|
commanded the 176th Engineer Brigade during major combat |
|
|
operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He went on to serve as assistant adjutant general |
|
|
of the Texas Army National Guard, as special assistant to the |
|
|
director of the Army National Guard, and as commander of the 36th |
|
|
Infantry Division; his many awards and decorations include the |
|
|
Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, and the Defense Meritorious |
|
|
Service Medal; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, An exemplary officer, he is respected and admired |
|
|
by his fellow officers and enlisted personnel alike, and it is |
|
|
truly fitting that he receive special recognition for his |
|
|
exceptional service to the nation; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend Major General Lester Simpson on his |
|
|
exceptional service as an officer in the United States Army |
|
|
National Guard and extend to him best wishes for continued |
|
|
success in all his endeavors; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
