SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 866
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Arcadio Durán Jr.
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of El Paso in mourning the loss of Arcadio Durán Jr., who
  died April 30, 2017, at the age of 48; and
         WHEREAS, Arcadio Durán was an exemplary educator, coach,
  and community leader who had a profound impact on the lives of
  countless young people; and
         WHEREAS, Known by most as Archie, he was a graduate of
  Irvin High School, where he had been a standout athlete; he
  earned a degree from The University of Texas at El Paso and began
  a long and productive career in education; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Durán was a teacher and a coach for many years
  at Jefferson High School before returning to Irvin High School,
  where he taught social studies and served as head coach of the
  girls' track and field team; over the course of his distinguished
  career, his students benefited greatly from his skillful
  teaching and coaching methods, his sincere concern for the
  individual, and his wise counsel and encouragement; and
         WHEREAS, As a tribute to his many years of exceptional
  service with the El Paso Independent School District, two
  scholarships were established in his honor; and
         WHEREAS, He and his beloved wife, Maribel Durán, were
  blessed with three children, Ariana Esther, Maribel Lisset, and
  Arcadio Angel, who were a source of great pride and joy; and
         WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he
  gave unselfishly to others, and his generous spirit and his
  enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be
  forgotten by those who were privileged to share in his life; and
         WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband and father, and he leaves
  behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and
  many friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Arcadio Durán Jr.; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Arcadio Durán Jr.
