SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 874
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Texas Commission on the Arts has announced the |
|
|
appointment of Beili Liu as the 2018 State Three-Dimensional |
|
|
Artist; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Texas State Artist designations are awarded |
|
|
to a select group of individuals to honor the exceptional quality |
|
|
of their work and their outstanding commitment to the arts in |
|
|
Texas; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A native of Jilin, China, Beili Liu graduated with |
|
|
a master's degree in fine arts from the University of Michigan at |
|
|
Ann Arbor, and she currently serves as a professor of art at The |
|
|
University of Texas at Austin; she creates installations that use |
|
|
commonplace materials to express complex cultural narratives, |
|
|
and her pieces have been included in both solo and group |
|
|
exhibitions across the United States as well as in Asia and |
|
|
Europe; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In recognition of her accomplishments, Beili Liu |
|
|
has received grants from the Joan Mitchell Foundation, the |
|
|
National Endowment for the Arts, and the Robert Rauschenberg |
|
|
Foundation; in 2008, she received a San Francisco Mayor's Award |
|
|
for her dedication to cultural exchange, and in 2011, she was |
|
|
presented with a Distinction Award at the 2011 Kaunas Biennial in |
|
|
Lithuania; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Widely admired for her immense talent, Beili Liu |
|
|
has made important contributions to her chosen field of artistic |
|
|
endeavor, and in so doing, she has enriched the cultural vitality |
|
|
of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby congratulate Beili Liu on her selection as |
|
|
the 2018 State Three-Dimensional Artist and extend to her sincere |
|
|
best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
Beili Liu as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
