SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 889

Lilia Peña |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|
citizens of Jim Hogg County in mourning the loss of Lilia Peña, |
|
who died May 14, 2017, at the age of 85; and |
|
WHEREAS, Lilia Peña was a highly respected member of her |
|
community who served the citizens of Jim Hogg County for more |
|
than 40 years; and |
|
WHEREAS, She was born on May 1, 1932, in Hebbronville, and |
|
she began her career in the county clerk's office as a typist in |
|
1953; conscientious and hardworking, she went on to serve as |
|
deputy clerk and as chief deputy clerk, and in 1974 she was |
|
elected county and district clerk for Jim Hogg County; she served |
|
with distinction and was reelected to serve a total of five |
|
consecutive terms as county and district clerk; she retired in |
|
1994; and |
|
WHEREAS, Lilia Peña was guided in all things by her strong |
|
Catholic faith; she was a lifelong congregant of Our Lady of |
|
Guadalupe Catholic Church in Hebbronville and was a member of the |
|
church's Sociedad de Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez; and |
|
WHEREAS, Lilia Peña enriched the lives of all who knew her |
|
with her warmth and enthusiasm; she was beloved by many, and her |
|
dedication to serving the citizens of Jim Hogg County will not be |
|
forgotten; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
family of Lilia Peña: her daughter, Fantina Garcia; her |
|
grandchildren, Clarissa Sweatt and Claudia S. Esquivel; and her |
|
six great-grandchildren; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Lilia Peña. |
