SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 889
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Lilia Peña
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of Jim Hogg County in mourning the loss of Lilia Peña,
  who died May 14, 2017, at the age of 85; and
         WHEREAS, Lilia Peña was a highly respected member of her
  community who served the citizens of Jim Hogg County for more
  than 40 years; and
         WHEREAS, She was born on May 1, 1932, in Hebbronville, and
  she began her career in the county clerk's office as a typist in
  1953; conscientious and hardworking, she went on to serve as
  deputy clerk and as chief deputy clerk, and in 1974 she was
  elected county and district clerk for Jim Hogg County; she served
  with distinction and was reelected to serve a total of five
  consecutive terms as county and district clerk; she retired in
  1994; and
         WHEREAS, Lilia Peña was guided in all things by her strong
  Catholic faith; she was a lifelong congregant of Our Lady of
  Guadalupe Catholic Church in Hebbronville and was a member of the
  church's Sociedad de Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez; and
         WHEREAS, Lilia Peña enriched the lives of all who knew her
  with her warmth and enthusiasm; she was beloved by many, and her
  dedication to serving the citizens of Jim Hogg County will not be
  forgotten; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Lilia Peña: her daughter, Fantina Garcia; her
  grandchildren, Clarissa Sweatt and Claudia S. Esquivel; and her
  six great-grandchildren; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Lilia Peña.
