SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 894
         WHEREAS, The John P. McGovern Museum of Health and Medical
  Science in Houston has improved public knowledge of health,
  medical science, and human anatomy for decades; and
         WHEREAS, Established in 1969 as the Museum of Medical
  Science, the institution was located within the Houston Museum of
  Natural Science until 1996, when it opened an independent
  facility in the Houston Museum District; it underwent a
  significant expansion in 2011 to further advance its mission; and
         WHEREAS, Also known as the Health Museum, this
  much-visited attraction presents scientific information in an
  entertaining manner that fosters curiosity, and it encourages
  learning through a unique interactive approach; its educational
  programs are carefully guided by members of the medical,
  academic, philanthropic, and business communities who serve on a
  committee of the board of directors; and
         WHEREAS, A member institution of the Texas Medical Center,
  the Health Museum is the only Smithsonian Affiliate within the
  Houston Museum District; its programs are enriched by
  partnerships with The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer
  Center, The University of Texas Health Science Center, Baylor
  College of Medicine, Texas Children's Hospital, Saint Luke's
  Episcopal Hospital, Park Plaza Hospital, the YMCA of Greater
  Houston, and the Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, as well as community
  organizations and other like-minded groups; since its inception,
  the museum has earned numerous accolades, among them a Mental
  Health America of Greater Houston Award and a University of
  Houston Cougar 100 Award; and
         WHEREAS, The John P. McGovern Museum of Health and Medical
  Science has fascinated and informed nearly three million
  visitors over the course of its history, and it is indeed
  deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby honor the John P. McGovern Museum of Health
  and Medical Science and commend its administrators and staff for
  excelling in their educational mission; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the museum as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
