SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 912
WHEREAS, For 30 years, the Commission on State Emergency
Communications has partnered with regional planning commissions
across the state to ensure access to 9-1-1 emergency services for
all Texas citizens and communities; and
WHEREAS, Created by the 70th Texas Legislature in 1987, the
Commission on State Emergency Communications is composed of 12
members representing public and private sector interests, and
its primary function is to administer the statewide 9-1-1 Service
and Poison Control Programs; the commission directs the
implementation of these programs in all corners of Texas by way
of 24 regional planning commissions, which work alongside local
governments, sheriff's offices, and police departments to
organize and coordinate 9-1-1 emergency communications according
to the specific needs of each area; and
WHEREAS, In cooperation with the Commission on State
Emergency Communications, the regional planning commissions
provide dispatchers with access to mapping and geographic
locating networks and equipment that can help first responders
quickly pinpoint a caller's physical location in the event of an
emergency; this collaborative approach to emergency planning has
helped make the State of Texas a national leader in the
application of the newest and most advanced emergency services
technologies, such as a system that allows even mobile wireless
9-1-1 callers to be found; and
WHEREAS, Working together to continually enhance and
streamline emergency telephone services, the Commission on State
Emergency Communications and its regional planning commissions
have contributed significantly to the safety and well-being of
the people of Texas, and the dedicated individuals who serve on
the commissions are indeed deserving of recognition for their
outstanding efforts; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
Legislature, hereby honor the Commission on State Emergency
Communications and the regional planning commissions of Texas
for 30 years of service and extend to all those associated with
this initiative sincere best wishes for continued success; and,
  be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the commission as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
