SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 925

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Diane Schenke, who is retiring as president of the Greater East End Management District on June 6, 2017, after eight years of outstanding service; and

WHEREAS, Diane Schenke joined the Greater East End Management District in 2009 after many years of service with such organizations as the Park People, the Nature Conservancy, and the Grand Parkway Association; she has also served as an environmental lawyer for law firms and corporations; and

WHEREAS, Under her exemplary leadership, the Greater East End Management District has received more than $32 million in grant funding, which has gone to such projects as pedestrian-friendly improvements to complement the East End rail line and new residential and commercial construction; and

WHEREAS, A longtime resident of and advocate for the East End community, she has been a leader in efforts to convince the City of Houston to redevelop neighborhoods near downtown as a boost to the local economy; she is also active with the Urban Land Institute and is a board member of the East End Houston Chamber of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, She has had a profound impact on the fabric of life in the Greater East End community, and her presence as president of the Greater East End Management District will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby commend Diane Schenke on her commitment to improving and revitalizing the East End area of Houston and extend to her best wishes for continued success in all of her endeavors; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
