LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 85TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 17, 2017

TO:
Honorable Phil King, Chair, House Committee on Homeland Security & Public Safety

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB234 by Anchia (Relating to wrongful exclusion of handgun license holders from property owned by or leased to a governmental entity and to certain offenses relating to the carrying of handguns on that property.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the definition of certain trespassing offenses in the Penal Code related to the licensed carrying of handguns. An exception to trespassing laws by a handgun license holder on property owned or leased by a government entity would be amended to specify that the property must be occupied by the government entity. The Office of Attorney General anticipates any legal work resulting from the passage of this bill could be reasonably absorbed within current agency resources.  No significant fiscal impact to the State is anticipated.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
