FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB603 by Johnson, Jarvis (Relating to the adoption of a physical fitness test by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Occupations Code to require the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement to adopt a physical fitness test incorporating fitness standards equivalent to those used by the Department of Public Safety. The bill would also require an applicant for a law enforcement license to pass this fitness test as a condition of receiving a law enforcement license. It is assumed any costs associated with implementing the provisions of this bill could be absorbed within existing resources.
This bill would take effect September 1, 2017.
Local Government Impact
The bill could result in possible, if undetermined, fiscal impacts on local law enforcement agencies, to the degree local law enforcement agencies must provide staff training on fitness evaluation and/or acquire equipment used to determine fitness.
