No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Local Government Code and Penal Code allowing a municipality with a population of 750,000 or more to charge a person with a Class B misdemeanor if the person uses, possess, wears, or operates false identification as a peace officer or misrepresentation of property including a vehicle.
The bill would take effect September 1, 2017.
Local Government Impact
Class B misdemeanor is punishable by a fine of not more than $2,000, confinement in jail for a term not to exceed 180 days, or both. Costs associated with enforcement, prosecution and confinement could likely be absorbed within existing resources. Revenue gain from fines imposed and collected is not anticipated to have a significant fiscal implication.
