FISCAL NOTE, 85TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 6, 2017

TO:
Honorable John T. Smithee, Chair, House Committee on Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB799 by Murr (Relating to the persons authorized to conduct an inquest in certain counties.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Government Code and Code of Criminal Procedure to allow justices of the peace or county judges in one county to request inquests into a person's death in other counties when a local official is not available.  It also directs that records of these inquests be transferred to the requesting county for final disposition and prohibits compensation other than mileage for conducting the inquest.

The Office of Court Administration indicates that no significant fiscal impact to the state court system or local courts is anticipated.

Local Government Impact

According to the Texas Association of Counties and the Justice of Peace and Constables Association, the bill would have no significant fiscal impact.
