HB818 by Cortez (Relating to authorizing the county clerk in certain counties to conduct a marriage ceremony and collect a related fee; authorizing a fee.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Family Code to authorize the county clerk and any deputy appointed by the clerk are authorized to conduct marriage ceremonies in counties with a population over 1.7 million and which contain a municipality with at least 75 percent of the residents of the county.  The clerk or deputy clerk shall collect a fee for this ceremony and deposit the fee in the county treasury for funding certain types of charitable organizations.

According to the Office of Court Administration, no significant fiscal impact on the state court system is anticipated.

This bill would apply to a marriage ceremony conducted on or after September 1, 2017.

Local Government Impact

According to the Comptroller, the local fiscal impact cannot be determined.

According to the Texas Association of Counties and Bexar County, the bill would have no significant fiscal impact.
