LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 85TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 11, 2017

TO:
Honorable Kel Seliger, Chair, Senate Committee on Higher Education

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB961 by Rodriguez, Justin (Relating to the election of junior college district trustees by plurality vote.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Education Code as it relates to governing boards of public junior college districts. The bill would allow a board of trustees to provide a resolution no later than the 180th day before the date of an election that a candidate must receive a plurality vote for a position on a junior college board of trustees. This analysis assumes that any costs associated with the provisions of the bill could be covered with institutional funds.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
