IN RE:
HB981 by Wray (Relating to the carrying of handguns by and an exemption from application of the Private Security Act of certain persons who provide security services on a volunteer basis at an established place of religious worship.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Occupations Code to exempt an individual from the provisions of the Private Security Act if the individual is providing volunteer security services on the premises of a church, synagogue, or other established place of religious worship. The bill would proscribe these volunteer security providers from appearing as a licensed security officer. The bill would authorize individuals who possess a valid handgun carrying license and who have been approved to provide volunteer security services at a place of religious worship, to carry a handgun on the premises of the religious organization, given the approval of the religious organization's leadership.  It is assumed any costs associated with implementing the provisions of this bill could be absorbed within existing resources.

This bill would take effect September 1, 2017.
