Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board
HB1216 by Deshotel (Relating to disclosure of pregnancy or the existence of a gestational agreement in a suit for the dissolution of a marriage and standing of an intended parent under a gestational agreement to file a suit affecting the parent-child relationship.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Family Code to require a petition for dissolution of a marriage to state whether a party to the marriage is pregnant or whether the parties to the marriage have a gestational agreement. The bill would also afford standing to an intended parent of a child under any gestational agreement in certain circumstances.
According to the Office of Court Administration, the bill might increase the number of cases filed, but it anticipates any increased workload would likely be absorbed by existing resources.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
