HB1271 by Lang (Relating to holding elections on uniform election dates.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Education, Election, and Water Codes relating to elections held on uniform elections dates. The bill would require cities, schools, and other political subdivisions to move their general election date to the November uniform election date not later than December 31, 2017.

The bill would move the May uniform election date to the first Tuesday in March. The bill would allow for special elections to fill legislative vacancies to be held on a non-uniform election date.  The bill would require bond elections to be held on a uniform election date, notwithstanding any other law.

The bill would repeal Election Code Sections 41.001(d), 41.0052(e), 41.007(d), 42.002(c), 67.003(b), and 85.001(e).

The Secretary of State and Texas Education Agency would be able to carry out provisions of the bill with existing resources. 

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
