Honorable Dan Huberty, Chair, House Committee on Public Education
FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB1651 by Oliveira (Relating to requiring a school district to reimburse classroom teachers employed by the district for the cost of classroom supplies purchased with personal money.), As Introduced
No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would require districts to reimburse classroom teachers up to $200 each for the cost of classroom supplies purchased with personal money for the benefit of the district's students.
The bill would become effective immediately if it received a vote of two-thirds of all members elected to each chamber of the Legislature, or otherwise on September 1, 2017.
Local Government Impact
Assuming that each teacher receives the maximum available reimbursement, based on TEA's estimate of 347,328 classroom teachers in 2016, it is anticipated that the cost to districts to reimburse all teachers statewide could be approximately $69.4 million annually (347,328 x $200).
