No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Family Code to instruct the courts to construe gender-specific language as gender-neutral when necessary to implement the rights and duties of spouses or parents in a same-sex marriage. The bill would revise sections of the Family Code and the Health and Safety Code to eliminate certain gender-specific language and to reflect the existence of same-sex marriage. The Office of Court Administration and the Department of State Health Services have indicated that the provisions of the bill could be accomplished with existing resources.
