No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Penal Code by increasing the punishment for the offense of aggravated promotion of prostitution. Under the provisions of the bill, aggravated promotion of prostitution would be punishable as a second degree felony or a first degree felony depending on the specific circumstances of the offense.
The Office of Court Administration and the Department of Public Safety indicate the provisions of the bill could be implemented within existing resources.
This analysis assumes the provisions of the bill addressing felony sanctions would not result in a significant impact on the demands for state correctional resources. The bill would take effect on September 1, 2017 and apply only to offenses committed on or after the effective date of the Act.
