LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 85TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 17, 2017

TO:
Honorable Tan Parker, Chair, House Committee on Investments & Financial Services

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2001 by Johnson, Eric (Relating to fees charged by a consumer reporting agency for the placement, temporary lifting, or removal of a security freeze on the consumer file or record of certain consumers or protected consumers.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Business and Commerce Code to expand the list of items in which a consumer reporting agency may not charge a fee to include the placement, temporary lifting, or removal of a security freeze resulting from a consumer's sensitive personal information being disclosed as a result of a breach of system security.

The Office of the Attorney General anticipates any additional work resulting from the passage of the bill could be reasonably absorbed within current resources.

The bill would take effect September 1, 2017.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
