LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 85TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 12, 2017

TO:
Honorable Larry Taylor, Chair, Senate Committee on Education

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2010 by Bonnen, Greg (Relating to providing workplace safety training information for use in the public school curriculum.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Education Code to collect and make available information regarding workplace safety training that may be included as part of a district's curriculum.  The bill would also permit school districts to develop workplace safety training programs to provide to educators, and to encourage the use of the training programs in curricula of appropriate courses.  Based on information provided by the Texas Education Agency, it is anticipated that the costs of the bill associated with compiling workplace safety training material and making it available to districts would be minimal and could be absorbed within existing resources.

The bill would take effect immediately if it received a vote of two-thirds of all elected members of each chamber of the Legislature, or otherwise on September 1, 2017.

Local Government Impact

The bill would result in some costs to local school districts for professional development and training kits if a district opted to include the workplace safety training program in certain courses.  However, it is anticipated that any costs associated with the bill would be small and could be absorbed within existing resources.
